Choosing the Future: Adaept Engineering at the Annual Reception of the Rostock Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Stralsund, July 2026. "Choose the Future. Shape the Economy Together with AI and Commitment" – under this motto, the IHK Rostock invited guests to its annual reception on July 2, 2026, held in the halls of the Volkswerft Stralsund shipyard. Our co-founder and CEO Fabian Hölzke was there representing Adaept Engineering.

An Afternoon with a Clear Message

The setting could hardly have been more fitting: Amidst shipyard halls where industrial history has been written for generations, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's economy discussed its future. Three topics were central – the state election as a course-setter for the region, the IHK General Assembly election, and Artificial Intelligence as an innovation driver and game-changer for businesses.

The message of the afternoon: The future doesn't just happen; it's made. By companies that invest. By people who are committed. And by a region that knows and builds upon its strengths.

Hands-on AI at the AI Plaza

A highlight of the reception was the AI Plaza, where regional companies and institutions showcased what is already possible with Artificial Intelligence today – for trying out, asking questions, and discussing. This was complemented by a keynote speech from Prof. Dr. Isabell Welpe, offering insights into the future of AI and its significance for the economy. A street food atmosphere and many good conversations rounded off the afternoon.

What particularly pleased us was that AI is no longer treated as a distant future topic in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, but as a concrete tool that companies are using here and now.

Why This Topic is Part of Our Daily Operations

This is precisely the interface where we work at Adaept Engineering. As a spin-off from the University of Rostock's Institute for Applied Microelectronics and Data Technology, based in Rostock, we connect machines and systems for industry – thereby creating the data foundation without which no AI system can function in production.

One insight is consistent across all our projects: AI is only as good as the data it understands. Our specialty is to semantically prepare machine, sensor, and network data using open standards like OPC UA, so that it becomes interpretable across manufacturers – for humans and for AI algorithms.

In the VICTOR6G research project, which launched in early 2026, we are developing the next stage together with Ericsson, SEW-EURODRIVE, Fraunhofer IPT, and other partners: digital twins of production facilities and 6G networks, whose real-time status data is available for AI-supported control. The goal is self-optimizing production environments – and network technology that can be operated even without deep IT specialized knowledge.

Region with Potential

The annual reception demonstrated: The ideas, entrepreneurial spirit, and expertise are present in our region. What matters now is networking – between businesses, research, and politics. As a company with roots at the University of Rostock and partners in international industrial research, we want to contribute to this.

We thank the IHK Rostock for the successful event and the many good conversations – and look forward to shaping the future of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern together.

CPO

Dr.-Ing. Arne Wall is a researcher and developer in the field of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), currently serving as a Co-Founder and Senior Research Engineer at Adaept Engineering GmbH. He specializes in secure communication protocols and system architectures, with a significant focus on OPC UA and other IoT technologies such as MQTT and CoAP. Dr. Wall has made substantial contributions to the development of security frameworks for smart building automation systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rostock, where his research centered on enhancing network security in embedded systems. Dr. Wall has published extensively in IEEE and ACM conferences, sharing his insights on topics related to security mechanisms and IoT protocol innovations.

ITEA PO Days 2025 — Adaept Engineering in Portugal on course for the future

From 16 to 18 September 2025, the leading European community for software and hardware innovation gathered in Lisbon for the ITEA Project Outline Days. With almost 400 representatives from industry, research and politics in attendance, the PO Days are regarded as setting the pace for the next ITEA-funded research projects — and thus as the birthplace of the technologies that will shape the market in five to six years' time.

For Adept Engineering, however, this meeting place has always been more than just a mandatory appointment. It was here that the first ideas for the OPTIMUM project were conceived in 2019, leading to our current architecture for semantic OPC UA data models, which was awarded the ITEA Award of Excellence in 2022. Three years later, we returned with the same pioneering spirit.
